Black Family Storytime St. Johns Library
The African and Black American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their favorite adult/family members). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement activities in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten. Attendance is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Multnomah County Library storytimes are supported by gifts made to The Library Foundation.

Turn your passion for music into real production skills in this immersive summer experience. Over the course of just 2½ weeks, students progress from learning the fundamentals of digital music production to creating polished, professional-quality tracks using industry-standard software and techniques.
Tier 1: Creative Launchpad
Perfect for beginners, Creative Launchpad introduces students to the exciting world of digital music production using Ableton Live. Participants explore beat-making, songwriting, recording basics, sampling, and music industry fundamentals while developing their own original song. The program culminates with students showcasing their completed track and celebrating their creative accomplishments.
Tier 2: Production Lab
Students then take their skills to the next level in Production Lab, where they learn advanced production techniques, including recording live vocals and instruments, creative sampling, mixing, and mastering. Working independently and collaboratively, participants produce a professional-quality original song while gaining valuable insight into the music industry through studio experiences and career-focused tours.
By the end of the program, students will have:
Created and produced original music from concept to completion
Developed hands-on experience with Ableton Live and professional production workflows
Learned recording, mixing, and mastering techniques used by today's producers
Collaborated with peers in a creative studio environment
Explored music industry career pathways through real-world experiences
Built confidence, creativity, and technical skills that prepare them for future music production opportunities

Please join Word is Bond for our 2026 Community Exhibition and Showcase on Thursday, August 7th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Moriarty Auditorium at the Portland Community Showcase Cascade Campus! The Community Showcase is a celebration of the hard work of our summer ambassadors over our seven-week Rising Leaders leadership program.
We begin with our Community Exhibition from 5:30-6:30, where attendees will meet and mingle with our first-year ambassadors who will be displaying their poster projects on our summer theme. Guests will enjoy a red-carpet arrival and photo wall, music, and hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
The Showcase will highlight the work over the past six months from our Spring Leadership Forum in D.C., our summer internships, and an exclusive discussion with our ambassadors who just returned from Ghana.
We will also be awarding our second annual Ambassador Leadership Awards, with awardees earning a trip to visit the Barack Obama Presidential Library in Chicago, Illinois, this Fall.
Please join family, friends, community, and elected leaders in celebrating a powerful summer of leadership and Black excellence!
