The Department of Neurosciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Neurosciences Dept. at the University of New Mexico recognizes that substance use disorders (SUDs) emerge from the complex interplay of biological, genetic, environmental, social, and developmental factors, with drugs of abuse interacting with multiple brain regions. Research is needed to provide a deeper understanding of the molecular signals and neural circuits that are modified by drug use, identifying gene-environment interactions to guide the development of new treatments and refining or developing models to understand how biological mechanisms drive behavior across the continuum of addiction, from initial drug use to drug craving, dependence, relapse and tolerance. The position includes a competitive state-funded salary, research start-up funds and state-of-the-art research and shared core facilities. The Substance Use Research and Education (SURE) Center at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy (Albuquerque, NM) is seeking a qualified candidate to join a dynamic and highly productive multi-disciplinary research team. Under the direct supervision of the SURE Center’s Research Scientist 3, the Research Coordinator will be responsible for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based and lab-based activities for the HBCD study. The MRI-based research activities include participant scheduling and the oversight of study visits, completing MRI safety screening with the assistance of MRI technicians, obtaining infant anthropometrics, administering questionnaires, and biospecimen collection. The lab-based activities include collection, processing, aliquoting, analyzing, and delivery of urine, blood, saliva, and possibly placental tissue biospecimens. This position is an integral part of the clinical research team to maintain oversight of research collection and specimens in accordance with protocols, uphold BSL-2 laboratory standards, and maintain regulatory and laboratory files, and oversee the process of data entry and quality assurance.

Seeking to hire an undergraduate or graduate student to work 15-28 hours per week as a Student Research Specialist for a clinical research group. The SURE Center is a large multi-disciplinary effort led by PI, Dr. Bakhireva, with collaborators across UNM-HSC and beyond. Due to the nature of the research being conducted, a high level of confidentiality and discretion is required. Clinical studies are conducted among Spanish- and English-speaking pregnant women and their newborns. This position will require the incumbent to be proficient in Spanish, and comfortable working with vulnerable populations, including patients with a history of substance use. The Research Specialist will work closely with UNM affiliated providers to administer structured interviews in English and Spanish for participants enrolled in the study. This position will also coordinate study-related procedures, including data entry and data management, and collection of biological specimens including blood, urine, and saliva. He/she/they will work closely with the study consultants and co-investigators, laboratory personnel, and hospital/clinic personnel. This position will require rotating weekend and evening coverage of research activities. May travel to various sites within a specified geographical area, as appropriate to the objectives of the study.

Senior Principal Validation Engineer
The Senior Principal Validation Engineer oversees Validation Contractors for the Albuquerque expansion and other key site projects. The majority of this role involves supervising relevant contractors at the Albuquerque site, including reviewing project proposals, interviewing, completing bid analysis, and selecting contractors. Responsibilities include managing projects and daily activities, overseeing validation activities, reviewing change controls, maintaining validated equipment, and updating validation documents such as the Validation Master Plan(s). Additional duties involve coordinating with departments to ensure timely completion of risk assessments, IQ, OQ, and PQ activities for new components, equipment, systems, and utilities, as well as developing and executing validation protocols for processes, equipment, utilities, and test systems. The role also supports new product introductions, equipment re-qualification schedules, and ensuring plant readiness post-shutdowns. The Senior Principal Validation Engineer will work with engineering, contractors, and facilities personnel to ensure proper system installation and operation, providing technical support for validated systems.

HS Research Tech 2 (req35203)
A Research Technician 2 is being sought to join the laboratory of Dr. Ryoma “Puck” Ohi in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Molecular Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, with lab space located on the 2nd floor of Cancer Research Facility (CRF). Studies in the Ohi laboratory focus on the microtubule cytoskeleton with an emphasis on tubulin post-translational modifications (PTMs) and tubulin PTM “readers”. The laboratory uses a wide range of techniques, which includes biochemistry, cell culture, and quantitative optical microscopy. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out administrative and organizational tasks, which include ordering and upkeep of standard laboratory reagents. The role will also include molecular cloning, cell culture, and protein isolation from either prokaryotic or eukaryotic sources. Proficiency in the following techniques will be considered assets: PCR, DNA cloning, immunoblotting, protein purification, microbiology, microscopy and cell culture. The successful candidate will also show initiative in the steering of projects and project development. An ability to mentor junior trainees in the laboratory would also be considered a major strength.
